Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad has fled his homeland, joining his family in exile, Reuters reports, citing two senior officials.
After 54 years of brutality and tyranny, the Syrian people are finally free of the Assad family.
The fall of the House of Assad comes as its supporters, primarily the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation, refused to back it as they did in the previous decade.
However, the future for the Syrian people remains uncertain and could be heading toward a very dangerous and precarious situation.
As a strong opponent of the Islamic Republic in Iran, I must caution those who see the fall of the Assad regime as some sort of major failure for the Islamic Republic and a precursor to the fall of that regime in Iran.
The stability and security of the Islamic Republic do not depend on Syria or Bashar Al-Assad.
In fact, there is a strong argument to be made that protecting and funding a whiny, needy, and very expensive Assad could actually destabilize the regime in Iran.
The Islamic Republic has spent, at minimum, tens of billions of dollars on Syria alone in the past 12 years.
Taking a hit on their expansionist revolutionary desires does not mean the regime has suffered a major loss or that it is now even more unstable.
I make no predictions, I would just be cautious about celebrating.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.
