BREAKING: Donald J. Trump will be elected to a second term as President of the United States, Fox News projects
It marks a stunning, though not surprising, return to power for Trump who will become the first sitting president to be a convicted felon and the second to serve non-consecutive terms.

Former President Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, is projected to win a second term and become the 47th President of the United States.
The Fox News Channel projected Trump’s victory.
It marks a stunning, though not surprising, return to power for Trump, who will become the first sitting U.S. president to be a convicted felon and the second U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms, the first being Grover Cleveland.
Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio will become one of the youngest vice presidents in U.S. history. His wife, Usha, who is Indian, will become the first South Asian second lady.
Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman Vice President, becomes the second woman nominated by a major party to lose a race for the presidency.
As President, Trump will also enjoy control of the US Senate which flipped to the control of Republicans this evening.
Trump, who was convicted on 34 felony counts by a New York jury, is also facing a federal indictment for his role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
He is additionally facing the potential of renewed federal charges in the classified documents case, which were previously dismissed by a federal judge earlier this year. These charges could be reinstated if a federal appeals court, currently reviewing an appeal by Special Counsel Jack Smith, overturns Judge Aileen Cannon’s ruling.
Trump is also facing charges in Georgia related to an election fraud scheme in that state.
The federal charges against Trump are likely to be withdrawn either by the Attorney General he nominates or through a self-pardon—something no sitting U.S. president has done in history.
Legal experts believe that the charges in Georgia will likely be put on hold due to his status as a sitting U.S. president.
Trump is set to be sentenced by a Manhattan judge later this month; experts also believe the judge will refrain from sentencing Trump to prison or house arrest due to his imminent role as President.
Harris’ ascension to the Democratic Party’s nomination followed President Joe Biden’s poor performance in a debate with Trump in June, which raised questions about Biden’s age and cognitive functioning.
Harris’ campaign enjoyed significant momentum in its first two months; she outraised Trump and was widely declared the winner of their first and only debate.
However, her campaign has been hobbled in recent months by a myriad of issues, which I will write about tomorrow and in the coming weeks.
